A big thank you to Colin and Adam - two students from Newman Catholic- who raised $324.08 for the Zambia Committee. The boys took it upon themselves to design, create, and sell bracelets for the Home of Hope in Lusaka, Zambia. Way to go, boys! (see picture)
Update from Zambia- Our friends and partners at the Home of Hope are bracing for the coronavirus to hit. It is coming at a difficult time after a recent drought forced a rise in utility and food prices.
"We are watching news from USA with great sorrow. So many lost lives! At the same time we are trembling, thinking that a similar wave could come to Zambia,"
according to Brother Jacek Rakowski.
At the time of this printing, the schools and universities had shut down in that country, but businesses run as usual. "We are being ridiculed and insulted for wearing a face mask in public," said Jacek. "We are living in a country where the main hospital (UTH) has only 12 ventilators and its ICU unit has a total of 6 beds! I guess we have about two weeks to find out for ourselves what the result of all this will be." The home has taken in 22 new youngsters from the streets of Lusaka since January bringing the total to 72. Please keep the staff and boys in your thoughts and prayers.
